About 40 kilometers from Marrakech, the landscape changes from city to farmland until you reach the Agafay desert. This is not a Saharan-style desert, it is more of a barren, deserted plateau. This long, flat land is difficult to travel in the summer, but in the cooler months it is beautiful and often overlooked by people who want to travel between the Atlas Mountains and Marrakech.

The area is free to explore and is a great place to go camel trekking or hiking. The Atlas Mountains are a stunning backdrop and walking on the plateau is easy. Walking down small river gorges and up small hills is very pleasurable and easy, with always great views. There will be a picnic lunch and camels if you prefer to explore on four legs.

You can enjoy your trek in Agafay as a day trip from Marrakech but you may prefer to stay and sleep under the stars. We can help you go camping in the wild or if you want more comfort, we can let you stay at the Agafay luxury camp nearby.
