Situated at the base of the High Atlas Mountains, approximately 30 km from Marrakech, lies the rocky and arid Agafay Desert. The region, which covers an area of several hundred hectares, is renowned for its untamed landscape and breathtaking views.
However, it’s questionable if the Agafay desert actually qualifies as a desert.
An area must receive no more than 10 inches of rain annually in order to be classified as a desert. Furthermore, the Agafay Desert receives varying amounts of rain, with some sources reporting less than this and others reporting more.
That being said, the region is undoubtedly hot and dry year-round.
